Question Fuel problems

I can't keep the engine running on my RV with a 1987 Ford Econoline 460 CID, carbureted. It's been sitting for several years, though I've started and run it on a regular basis. This time I can start it but it won't keep running unless I dribble gas directly into the open carburetor.

I've disconnected the fuel line forward of the fuel filter, run a hose from there and I can see gas pumping out of the end of the hose as I run the engine.

My question: does the flow from the fuel pump increase as the speed of the engine increases?

A carb that has sat for years will need to be removed and rebuild! Start there. IF you don't know how to do this try and find someone or a shop that can or see if you can buy a rebuild carb. They won't be cheap but you will get a good carb that will work.

Your floats might be stuck shut. You could try rapping on the fuel bowls to loosen up the needles and seats.
