2005 Explorer 4.0 Intake

Had a large coolant leak and repair shop replaced lower intake and a freeze plug. I asked for the intake and they gave me the large plastic intake. Looking at the intake I see no where that coolant would flow through this intake. All I see are the air chambers that feed each cylinder. Am I missing something or did they replace the air intake when all that needed done was the freeze plug.

Check for cracks, distortions etc. It could have been damaged either before or during removal. O-ring leaks are common on these as well. I would ask them why they swapped it out, as it doesn't make much sense without some further explanation.

Agreed. Coolant does not flow through these intakes at all. They have a bit more explaining to do as to why that needed changed.

Spoke to repair shop and they are telling me the intake was replaced because when these are removed they are notorious for cracking and or warping from the heat they are subjected. I was never told this when I brought it in, I was actually told the intake was leaking and needed to be replaced along with the freeze plug. If they would have told me this I would have just told them to inspect it for cracks and put a straight edge on it to look for warping. I am calling their corporate office today.
