'84 Bronco II charging problems
I just recently bought a brand new battery, then not to long after it died on me. So, my original thinking is that I need a new alternator. I recharge my battery to where it's at 12.8 volts, and when I start my bronco, instead of going up in voltage it drops down to 12.6 volts. I rev my engine and I don't notice a change in voltage. My belts are on fine and I followed a wire from the alternator and traced it back to where there is an exposed part. So it could be faulty wiring. Also a friend of mine told me it could be the regulator, and that you could bypass the regulator to test. What do y'all think?

My son works for a major auto parts chain and they do free testing. I just drive to the store he works at and he brings out a tester and it lets you know what's working and what's not. Then they sell you the part you need. You might check with your auto parts store and see if they offer this free service.
