Voltage Regulator....

I have a 1966 Bronco witha 1974 Bronco motor in it. It has an externaly regulated alternator that is giving me a slight overcharge at about 14.7 volts. The odd thing is when I turn on the lights or other accessories the voltage acctualy goes up to over 15 volts. I have tried other ways of wiring the regulator but then it either doesn't regulate at all, or will not allow me to turn off my engine. I am installing a dual battery setup soon and will want a new alternator. Would going to a one wire alternator solve any off my problems?

A one wire alternator would fix your problem since you eliminate the regulator altogether. But you may not have to.

Where are you measuring voltage? At the battery? Actually, 14.7v is ok, but I'm not sure why it would spike when you put a load on it. Does it drop when you put a load on and then come back up to 15?
Do you have a wiring diagram that you're following for the regulator wiring? I can get one if you need it.

Thanks. I'm just sharing what I've learned over the years working on Broncos and Fords in general. I'm by far not the smartest guy in the world, or even on this forum. But if I can help somebody out, that's just fine with me.
