phantom,
Regarding your 3.0L Ford motor, you want to look at the number/letter in the 8th position of your VIN #:
U = 3.0L Regular Gasoline OHV (12v) - Ranger/Taurus/Sable
1 = 3.0L Flexible Fuel Gas/Methanol OHV (12v) - Taurus/Sable
2 = 3.0L Flexible Fuel Gas/Ethanol OHV (12v) - Taurus/Sable
V = 3.0L Flexible Fuel Gas/Ethanol OHV (12v) - Ranger
S = 3.0L Regular Gasoline OHC (24v) - Taurus/Sable
Note that all of the engines above are Vulcans except the "S" which is the Duratec. Your truck has one of the Vulcans ....Rangers do not come with the Duratec as an option.
The Duratec is a Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) design with aluminum heads. It can rev a little higher than the Vulcan and puts out more horsepower and torque at the higher end.
