Anybody else with a 2.7 have a chirping noise at idle when the truck is warm? It's not real loud, but you can hear it in a parking garage, or in my garage, but only when it's warmed up. If I shut it off for 30 seconds or so and restart it, the noise is gone. It doesn't start at all until it's been driven for 15 miles or so. I took it back to the dealer and they claimed it was the upper pulley and replaced a "Tension Kit" today. I drove down South, got back home, and the noise is still there. It's not a HUGE deal right now, and eventually it'll present itself louder and more constantly if there is something wrong, but I didn't notice it before a couple of weeks ago. Of course, I never noticed the turbos spooling up until now either. Hopefully someone else hears it on theirs and it's normal!
Yeah, they tried that and determined it was the pulley on the tensioner and replaced the whole assembly...Weird thing is it goes away if I shut the truck off for about 30 seconds and restart it.
Any chance that it could be a pulley from another component?
They used a stethoscope on it everywhere and said it was the pulley on the tensioner. Since it goes away after it's shut off and restarted, I'm wondering if it isn't something to do with crankcase pressure or something. I simply don't know what it is...
Update: Dealer has a ticket open with the Ford Hotline to see if they have any idea what it is. It's getting louder, so eventually I'll find out what this is. Service Director, Service Manager, and a tech were all stumped today trying to locate what it is, but they all agree it shouldn't be making that noise.

The good news is that the problem is documented and the dealership agrees that it needs repair.
I've never actually seen where people on the phone or internet have a better chance of fixing something than a hands-on-mechanic; although you will get lots of free-opinions. Here goes another: You shut it off--right?...and it stops when you start it back up until??? it warms back up...which is when heating begins and metal expands. My 2 cents, with a free price tag is that somewhere a bearing on a pulley is going bad...I am going back to work...good luck.

One thing is for certain. After they find it, everyone will say "Duh!!!"

I guess I wasn't really clear...sorry. I can shut it off, count to 10, start it up and the noise is gone - until I drive it a block. After that, the noise is back. We drove it three times today, and the Service Manager said "wow, that is weird". Granted they used a stethoscope to pinpoint it the first time, this time, three different people (4 counting me) hear the noise coming from the opposite side or angle from where the other people are hearing it. Like you're on the left saying it's coming from my side, and I'm on the right saying it's coming from your side...From the front it sounds like the back, and from underneath it sounds like it's up top. My truck is a ventriloquist...lol

I thought you were clear. It sounds like it makes the noise when it gets hot and stops after cooling down. If I wanted to find it, I would see if it stayed quiet longer if I let it cool longer. Then again, if I thought they needed some motivation, I'd take it to my mechanic, he'd fix it and I would drop the bill off at the dealer. For me not finding it isn't an option and neither is listening to it.

No, I drive it and get it good and warm, like 20 miles and it chirps...Shut it off for 10 seconds, restart it, and the noise is gone...Drive it a block, and it's back. It doesn't cool down in 10 SECONDS. The dealer got a little more motivated after I filled out my Ford Viewpoint survey...I was going to wait until it was flat out SQUALLING before I took it back again...lol

I am sorry. I am not being clear. Many truck parts get very hot. 10 seconds is a long time when something is hundreds of degrees and cooling could happen that fast. What I was really saying was "Aha!"....heat. I suggest using a very scientific approach.

That makes sense...I'm going to try a very light couple of squirts of belt dressing to eliminate the serpentine belt, but if the noise goes away, they said they'll replace it. The Ford Hotline has zero complaints about it - so it's not systemic - which is good news.
It is the transmission. The dealership is going to replace the front pump, seal kit (of course) and the torque converter. The transmission is chirping, and leaking. The drops are stuck in the "diaper" still, and that's why I didn't notice any drips. They have to look for scoring when they pull the pump, and if there is, they will replace the entire transmission.
The dealership is paying for a rental, so I'm okay with it.
