The vin says it is a 351m but there is a 4barrel on it. Not sure if the motor is stock or if intake was replaced. Just trying to find out what i have ao i can get ordering parts. Thanks.
Well it is definitely not a 351m/400 because it doesnt have splayed valves. May be a 351w. May be a 302. Seems like it should have the exhaust manifold bolts in a straight line if it either of those.
Looks like a 302 with an aftermarket intake manifold to me.
If I'm counting right, it's 6 valve cover bolts, which says it's a Windsor-family engine (almost certainly a 302 or 351W), and it has a "wet" intake manifold (coolant runs through it), which isn't true of the 335-series engines. If the lower thermostat bolt is accessible with a socket (above the water pump housing), it's a 351W; if you'd have to use a wrench to get on it, 302.
Hard to tell without a good downward shot to show the width of the intake but, judging by the factory add-on bracket, between the right cylinder head and the alternator, I would say it was a 351 Windsor.
I dont think 302s had this alternator mounting bracket but not 100% sure about that.
If the intake is 9 inches wide, it's a 302. If the intake is wider than 9 inches across, it's a 351W.
The easiest way for me to tell is, 302's have the deck/head surface right on top of the waterpump bolt hole. 351's have an inch and a half of block from that surface to the waterpump bolt hole.
I cant say for sure but up to at least 1978, 302 and 351w had exhaust manifold bolts in a straight line across the head. The bolt pattern on those heads are staggered like a 335 or 385 series. Maybe a late model type head? Really no telling since these trucks never came with a 302 or 351w from factory.
