Hey all got a query for ya. I have an 89 F 250 with a 302 yep a 302 my air pump just started squealing so I want to remove it totally. How hard is it and is there any hoses I need to block off? also is this going to affect my o2 sensor and will it affect my performance or fuel economy. I will be replacing the stock exhaust with dual in the next year what would happen if I got rid of my o2 sensor completely.
I got rid of my air-pump on my 460 and have not had any problems. If you don't go with headers right away you will have to plug the holes on the back on the manifolds. You have to keep your O2 sensor because your engine computer uses it to help get the correct air-fuel ratio
regardless if you get headers or not, you still need to block the holes in the back of the heads. i belive if you use a 5/8 course thread blot around an 1" long will work. then you just pinch the air tube that goes down into the exshaust and remove everything else. fuel economy and performance will not not go down, if anything it will go up without the stress of the pump on the engine, but what ever you do, allways keep the O2 censor, without it the engine runs like crap!
YOU GUYS JUST GOT ME THINKING OF REMOVING MY PUMP TOO, WHAT THEN DO YOU DO WITH THE SERPINTINE BELT, WONT IT STILL NEED THE PUMP PULLY TO GET THE TENSSION ?I DON'T HAVE CATS OR HEADERS BUT TRU DUALS.
well it is the same, 289s,302s, and 351s use the same heads. as for the belt tension, i just used the same belt off of my 302. I am not shure if you can just use the stock blet or not, i swapped from a 302 to a 351. I can tell you that if the stock blet dont work for the 351, put a 302 belt on it.
