Best camshaft

Ok I have a 90 bronco with the 5.0. It was blowing oil out the tailpipe and running like crap. So I decided to rebuild it. After tear down I found out I have a roller block without the roller cam. I could use some help picking a camshaft. Any help is appreciated.

go to your Ford Dealer, talk to the parts man at the parts department, you want the 6250 camshaft and the 6500 lifters.

It's the F303 cam which isn't even a little bit SD EFI or truck friendly, do not go there. What you want to do is go to a scrapyard and find either a 5.0 mustang or T-bird or a '94+ 5.0 truck and pull the whole valvetrain from it.. cam, lifters, pushrods, and spider assembly and put all that in your motor. If you don't like using used parts I recognize that with respect to the lifters so a new OEM set isn't a lot of money, but a used roller cam should be fine(unless visibly damaged) and there is nothing at all wrong with a used a junkyard spider assembly. FYI.. the spider is an 8 fingered metal spring that keeps the lifters in the bores in combination with H shaped dogbones that prevent the lifters from turning.
Note the nuts that retain the spider in the lifter valley are a very specific length and others cannot be substituted so be sure to collect these and torque to spec with a little locktite on assembly.

Thank you for the advice. I will have to go to the junkyard. So anything 94+ or a mustang?

Called ford and they can't even pull up a part number. I really don't have time to go to the junkyard. Can someone help with a part number for a good cam.

The Comp cams 35-512-8 would be a good aftermarket substitute. http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...12-8/overview/

Good discussion here: How to pick a CAMSHAFT for EFI - FSB Forums

If you are doing mostly low speed rock crawling and regular freeway driving, you do not want to get very radical at all. The EFI is very particular to vacuum signals and the wrong cam will send it into never never land.

OTOH - if you are savvy with motor builds, you can stretch the envelope a bit. You do not "need" a roller cam, but you can go there if you wish.

My preferred approach is a torque cam and change the rockers to 1.7 steel roller tipped to get a bit of extra lift and increase the speed of the cam events. not the timing, but the opening and closing velocities.

If you select a cam just outside the recommended range, you can tame the bottom of the RPM curve with Rhoades Lifters (flat tappet hydraulics). They'll pull a little cam event timing out until about 3K or so, by which time the EFI is over its fits and temper tantrums
