Wheel backspacing advice

Hi all,

It is time to buy my truck a new pair of shoes and I am second guessing my measurements. I currently have a set of 15x8's with 2.5" backspacing that seem to fit quite nicely, but I feel like I am missing something.

I have a Heidt's mustang 2 front clip and explorer 8.8 rear end which is not uncommon combination on this site, but it seems like everyone else ops for the 15x8's with 4" backspacing. This would put the rims quite deep in the wheel wells and looks a bit strange to me.

Am I missing something or is this the choice for most due to rim choice. I see many also put spacers on to compensate for the offset but why not just go with a larger offset wheel.

Thanks in advance,
Mike
