Outer right (passenger) side frame rail towards the front of the truck, has an frame ID engineering number stamped on it.

1978 ID number prefix (D8TA) is different than 1979 ID number prefix (D9TA).

But, you haven't mentioned if the frame is for a 2WD or 4WD, for an F100 or F150 or F250 or F350.

All these frames are different due to what their "section modulus" (depth of the frame rails) is.

Here's the frame ID number on a '73 2WD. Like ND said, outside RH side frame rail.

I just cleaned 38" from the front of the frame toward the fenderwell exits and i dont see no stamp marks, that part of the frame did have alot of rust that could have been peeled with a fingernail so i believe it had rusted away

Do believe 1978 and 1979 F250 4x4 frames were the same. If you have a '74 cab, then your build will not be all original. Which in this case, who cares. Build your truck, be happy, post pictures.

Wish i cud post pictures here, i just like knowing what i have without playing the guessing game, with the frame in the condition its in i may not figure out what year it is, unless i pull the cab up to see if there are stampings on that part of the frame, wich i am not gona get in to atm, lol
