03' Leakdown and Compression Failures - Build Thread
Hey Guys!
Yep, I plundged. Saw a deal I couldn't pass up. Been doing some research prior to buying to understand what I am up against - I'm up for the challenge!
Anyhow, the truck is an 03 F250 extended cab, 4x4 auto 6.0. Truck seems to start okay but idles rough and blows white smoke.
Seller had the truck diagnosed at Southwest Diesel here in Phoenix and came back with 19% compression on #4 piston (with a failed leakdown) and 27% on #5.
See the video below for me starting the truck, and also the image of the $400 diagnostic he had performed.
Looking for tips and suggestions on where to go from here, thanks all!

It's a deal if you don't mind putting a motor in it. With that much loss and air getting past the piston and rings into through the block I suspect a borescope check of the cylinders or pulling the heads would show that on the two of the cylinders either blew off injector tips or dropped glow plug tips. The fuel may have had water or gasoline in it. The best case would be a hole in the piston(s), but most likely a scored cylinder wall.
Where to go depends how thick the wallet is and how mechanical you are. But a visual inspection of the interior of the motor is really needed. But based on your project thread you're up to it.
