This may sound like double talk, but you really only need it if you actually need it.
My old two-wheel drive 7.3L F250 that now belongs to my daughter has very tight steering and it has over 180k miles. I'd never even think about having the steering box replaced.
Mine was leaking and had a ton of play. The redhead box felt tighter but it's because I was replacing a worn out part. I went with them because of the reputation and there not being any other manufacturers that actually stood behind the product.
My stock box would not turn my stock Michelin 31's on pavement at idle and a stand still if I stood on the brakes while turning. The redhead box will turn them with one hand. But like I said my stocker was leaking.
So I'd agree if the stocker is working then stick with it. If its not, though I had misgivings with redheads customer service, my box has been on for 3 or 4 years and is still in great shape.
247k on the stock box, just starting to get excessive play. I could theoretically tighten it, however I like upgrades at cheaper prices
I'm kind of in the same boat. I could attempt to tighten mine and would probably get it to work better but I'm very impressed with the way they rebuild the boxes and at such a discount I would rather replace than repair and worry that I might have to replace in a few months at full price anyway.
