Hard Starting?

Please help! Hello everyone I am new to the form. I have a 1984 F150 Short bed, step side with a 300/6. Hard starting, after it sits over night. Once it’s started and warmed up it runs fine, what are any possible solutions?

The mechanical fuel pump could be losing its prime. You can confirm this if you disconnect the line from the pump and put a small gas tank under the hood and hook it up to the carb. If you can start the truck quickly with this setup then the fuel pump is bad. It could also be a misadjusted choke system

You would think the carb would have a little fuel left in it from just overnight. What about your choke? Is it working?

How are you starting it? You need to pump the pedal once or twice, to set the choke, and also prime the engine. Unlike a newer fuel injected vehicle.

Pumping the pedal before cranking squirts gas into the engine, and also sets the choke to closed.
