I just bought a f100, I starts in park and neutral. When I'm switching between gears it grinds and I was told it's the starter trying to engage the flywheel. .what should I do?! Please help. I'll be back tomorrow with more info.
That's really weird. I wonder if the neutral safety switch is either faulty or mis-wired.
Depending on the model year, this switch is located either on the steering column or on the side of the transmission. In both cases, electrically, it should connect the wire from the ignition switch run position to the starter solenoid if in park/neutral, and should connect a positive 12V feed to the reverse lights when in reverse. If somehow the +12V for the reverse lights is getting sent to the starter solenoid instead of the reverse lights (due to a short circuit), maybe that could be the cause?
So for some reason a spark plug was Unplugged but I ordered a new NSS and removed my starter to have it tested tomorrow while I go pick up my NSS. So ill update again once everything is installed and hopefully if my starter is good I'll have it back together with no problem!! Till tomorrow everyone, thanks for the info keep it coming
