Have a 2012 6.7 with the stock 18 inch wheels. I have researched some prior threads before but I'm still not 100% sure of the answer. Have a chance to but an OEM 20" wheel set tomorrow for a awesome price and was wondering if it will throw a CEL light or not. I'm not worried about going to the dealer to try and calibrate it since I know they can't (from what I've read). I understand the tires will be taller but will it cause a CEL to constantly throw since 3.31 gears don't come with the larger wheel/tire? I've seen a couple people who have done it but when I tried to contact them I got no response. Thanks in advance.
I bought my 2015 truck with the basic 18" wheels/tires I drove over the tire dealer and had them put on 20x9 wheels with 295/65r20 tires. These are 35.1" tall, so they are even larger than the OEM 275/65r20 tires.
I have no problems with them. But I do have the 3.55 rear end. But I suspect if you did the math, you would find the 295/65r20 on 3.55 rear end are about the same as 275/65r20 on a truck with 3.31
I changed mine from factory 18's to factory 20's and no change was needed and no CEL ever came on. I have the 3.55's but that's not the point. If a program change was warranted it wouldn't matter what gear you have, it just wouldn't be allowed on the 3.31's.
I think it would only throw a light if you had different sizes on different axles or side to side. Then the ABS/DSC computer would think the truck was in a perpetual slide, and it would get confused. When you change all of them, the truck just thinks it is going a little slower than it really is, but since it has no other indication of speed other than wheel speed, it doesn't know the difference. It has no independent source like a GPS or air speed indicator that it uses to compare.
I sure hope...you will understand the following...My experience with the upgrade ...I got help from members . I had a 2011 F250 XLT that came with 18 inch stock wheels and tires. I purchased stock 20 inch Ford wheels and put on the correct size of tires. I had gear ration of 3:31.....There are limitations with the gear ratio being 3:31 when it comes to upgrading wheels and tires. It you upgrade ...and take your truck to the dealership to update the truck computer......You cannot update the truck computer with 20 inch wheels and tire .....it you have 3:31 gear ratios. The best you can do is .....stock 18 inch wheels / 295/65/18 tires......I sure hope...I stated that correctly.... The speedo will be almost right on. Trying to update the computer with stock 20 inch wheels and tires ....having 3:31 gears....will cause the CEL light because it cannot be done.....Good luck and keep us posted...

Thanks like i said im not going to take it into the dealer. I'm just gonna put the wheels on and let it be. Just didn't want to get a CEL as soon as the wheels get on which sounds like it won't be the case. My speedo runs about 2 MPH fast so it will probably be right on.
