Steering UJ

Hi

Need a little help identifying the power steering box and sourcing some kind of UJ to go between the box and column.

The box I think has 30 splines on it.

Also the what I would call the lower steering column bush/bearing is totally ruined.

Its my first older pick up but the steering didn't seem to self centre at all just stayed where you put it with about 3 inch of play left/right on the wheel.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Chevy and GMC used out board mount PS boxes. That might be a place to start looking.

Go to the Borgeson website. They have a variety of u-joint styles, adapters and shafts. They should be able to advise you on what you need.

Heights u-joints are good. I got mine from Summit Racing. I bet you have 36 splines, though. I'd count again.

Your "About Me" profile says 1966 F100, but is it 2WD or 4WD?

If it's 4WD, P/S wasn't available until 1973 and then it was Power Assist P/S thru 1975.

1966 F100 4WD, 1967/75 F100/250 4WD's use a multi-part lower steering shaft & coupler that includes a u-joint.

But what you appear to have, is a butchered one piece lower steering shaft and coupler assy from a 1976/79 4WD

Look on the gear box sector shaft cover for a cast ID number, post what it is.

thanks for the replies guys.

The steering box end is 30 spline 3/4 and the column end is 36 spline 3/4 so I have ordered 2 x Joint to suit with 3/4 DD shaft between .

I know its not original but the frame has been cut and welded so kinda stuck with it for now.

Butchered isn't the word that thing could have killed me tbh.

Can anybody identify what the box is incase I need to replace it, just had a look in the dark and the number thats stamped on like a square raised part is 6A232 if that helps?
