Hey guys, gonna be throwing way more money into my truck than I planned, but sumbitch do it once do it right I guess...
my TC is going out so im gonna have the whole Trans rebuilt, one of my best friends dads owns a reputable trans shop and is gonna beef it up with a rebuild, but im still lookin at around 22-2500 bucks. Ive been limpin it around til I get the money together, by that I mean get the title back for a Corvette I just paid off, I have 3 buyers already but the finance company is taking its sweet *** time sending my title back which is basically my money.
Anyways, I maintenanced my front brakes about 2 months ago, new pins and greased everything, tonight the front right and then a few miles later the front left brakes seized up on me, I barely made it home. And im DONE with the brakes, what aftermarket or replacement options kits do I have. I found this on Summit, sorry if I shouldn't link there, but seems reasonable for everything. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/pw...250-super-duty
still haven't pulled the trigger yet, I just today got the title back for my corvette...friggin finance company took their sweet *** time sending it.... I still haven't made up my mind. I think now im leaning towards just getting new lifetimes from Oreilly, calipers and rotors and maybe upgrading the brake lines to braided/stainless since im opening the system up and gonna have to bleed it I may as well.
I just thought about it for a while and I can find an Oreilly anywhere I am at...so if I have a failure with my calipers again its just a matter of driving to the store and returning them. Another factor is returning the core charge, I would have to pay for shipping to ship the cores back to summit or wherever I ordered the parts from; with orielly I can just drive them up there. When it comes down to it, the power stop kit is actually a little bit cheaper than buying from O'reilly, but that's before shipping cost of some heavy items back to summit, not to mention the extra headache of packing and shipping said items.
There is something to be said about the convenience of having a store front within driving distance VS. having to ship and wait. If I ever have a failure with the power stops who knows what headaches I may go through, where with stuff from oreilly I can drive there, return em, get replacements, and have em back on my truck in less time than it would take to call summit and box ship these back and then wait for replacements from the UPS man.
I don't have any experience with that manufacturer from Summit. Honestly, if this was a sports car I would have you put a larger after market set on.
But the brakes are really good stock and get the job done. Pads would be the only thing to look to beore aggresive.
That said. I would look to the autoparts and find stock remanufactured calipers. You are right to want stainless and braided lines. Just keep it simple and if you find something with a good warranty even better.
yep..... I thought about nice big slotted cross drilled....the reviews on them say its a big improvement on stopping power, but I was happy with mine when they were working properly.
What grease are you using on the slide pins? I am using this stuff and works great on all the vehicles I have done in the last few months. Napa is the only store I found it at but other stores have a silicone grease that will work as well.
I am guessing the red grease is only rated around 350-400 degrees. I would seriously look into a silicone based grease. As hot as these calipers get and well known the issues are I wonder if most of it has to do with the wrong lubricant all along.
