Understanding payload on F-250 6.7L

I read those PDF's for 2011 through 2013 that list the maximum tow and maximum payload, they break them out with all the F-Series SRW, DRW, 4x2, 4x4, etc.

I see that for example it shows 2011 F-250 4x4 SRW 156.2" will have a 3250lbs max payload. Then I go to the dealer and see a 2011 F-250 Lariat, 6.7L Diesel, 4x4, SRW there and the sticker shows max payload of 2065lbs. I guess I can understand that the PDF spec was based on an XL, 4x4, SRW, Diesel, 156.2" with no add-ons. But can that really account for 1185lbs of stuff? What gives?

How do some people say they have F-250 SRW Lariat or XLT or nicely equipped stuff with 2500-2600 payloads. I would imagine they are almost all the same, it's not like one built somewhere else has an extra left spring or something, right? Also is this 2065lbs on the sticker expecting a full tank (not even sure of the size now) plus a driver (example: 150lbs + 20lbs personal stuff) THEN of coruse you add all your extra payload?

Forget the stickers and the books. GVWR minus the trucks weight on a scale ticket. then RGAWR minus rear axle weight on the scale ticket is the answer. It varies between each and every truck depending on what that owner considers their basic "no load' load.

I usually get the feeling that people who argue about the book towing and hauling specs don't actually have weight tickets on their trucks. Post a ticket and then I'll believe the numbers they post, until then it's all theoretical.

I have 1520# payload based on this ticket. GVWR - weight; 9800# less 8280 actual = 1520#. RGAWR - weight; 6100# less 3440 = 2660#, meaning GVWR limits me before the axle weights. It's probably more like 1800# payload in the real world depending on where the weight is, in the cab, in the bed, or on the drawbar, but hard numbers says 1520# until weighed otherwise.

This is the 2011 Source book (yoiu can google: Ford Super Duty 20XX Source Book" to find it for any year):
https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckBBAS...Pickups_SB.pdf

Page 80 lays out all the rear spring pack configurations.

Page 61 in this .pdf is more realistic than the slimmed down promotional material guides, but still need a real weight ticket to plug in actual front/rear/gross weights to be entirely sure.

I also need to grasp my head around why someone wouldn't get an F-350 when comparing the F-250 to the F-350, since price is almost identical.

Licensing and insurance costs are often higher. In a lot of states, an F-350 falls into the "commercial vehicle" category.

Like the previous poster said, extra costs from the state. I just bought a '12 F250 6.2. It fits my needs and provides more than enough payload for my needs. Here in VA I can have passenger plates on my truck, with a 350, I would need truck tags. This would increase my reg cost and almost double my personal property taxes.

It would be nice to have the 350 for the "just in case I need it factor", but the extra costs just are not worth it for me.

Understanding payload on F-250 6.7L

I just left the ford dealer. fully loaded f250 diesel platinum 2015 has 1850lb payload. a fully loaded f350 diesel platinum gas 3100lb payload. crazy. probably all has to do with the 10,000lb gvcr for the f250...
