Registration fees for Ca F250 vs F350 owners
I have been on DMV website looking to see if there is a differnece in registration between an F250 Vs F350 and I am having no luck. I was assured by the sales person there is no difference in the weight fee but I have heard through friends they thought there was.
I believe a Crew Cab short bed F350 has a GVwR of around 11,300 and an F250 in under 10,000 possibly around 9,600LBS.
Can I get some help in figuring this out. I want the F350 but I am not willing to spend $100 or more a year for a weight fee. You know how bad California is. The $800 or so is bad enough for an F250 I don't want to see $900.
Can you guys post your vehicle weights and DMV fees I would appreciate it!!

Conflicting information, or maybe i'm not yet awake, but I think you'll be ok as long as it's not for commercial use. Here's a couple links:
Registering Commercial Vehicles and PTI Trailers FFVR 27
Vehicle Registration and Vessel Fees
"Commercial Vehicle Registration Act (CVRA) Fee
Trucks operated at a gross or a combined gross weight of 10,001 lbs. or more, will be assessed a CVRA fee in addition to other registration fees (including but not limited to a CVRA Motor Vehicle fee and a CVRA CHP fee). Trucks operated at a gross weight of 10,000 lbs. or less will continue to be assessed a weight fee based on the truck's unladen (empty) weight. "
" Q - I have a pickup truck and sometimes tow a heavy trailer. I believe the over-all weight may be over 10,001 lbs. Should I complete a declaration form?
A- No. Pickup trucks as defined, do not have to declare their operating weight regardless of how heavy the load or combined vehicle weight"

Well truth be told it depends on what county you are in. Contra Costa county where i am we pay a ton of fees and road tax add ons. Bottom line once you go over 10,001 lbs you reg fees go up and it is about 910 to register an f-350 in this county but it does go down a bit after 4 years. Keep in mind your insurance goes up as well.

I just paid $1500 for plates on my F450, which is less than half of what I was paying on my '06 F350 ($3500). I moved to a different county in Colorado recently, and that made the difference.
Still highway robbery though! It took their DMV and a DOS computer program 20 minutes to churn out that figure. That's why if you just call them to ask what it might cost you for plates, they never know, and force you to come in and enter a ton of factors so the computer can crunch the numbers just to come up with an estimate!
We now have on November's ballot a measure to make all plate fees a flat $10. The opposition has spent millions on killing the measure, and their ad spots run all day long, and never even mention why you would want to keep paying the higher fees. I would like to see a flat fee on plates in Colorado, but based on the advertising against, and the shifting local political landscape, I'm afraid we'll be stuck with burdensome license fees forever.

Wow, those fees are past crazy. $227 here.
I got mine late May and it took at least 15 minutes for the simple fact they thought I was registering a futuristic vehicle. They had nothing in their "systems" about some 2011 Super Duty. I offered to show proof other than the paper work but since I had to park several blocks away, they figured it out. I'm sure the options were there the whole time.
