My 6.4 Build
Truck:
2008 Ford F-250 XL
6.4L Powerstroke Diesel
Manual Transmission
Extended Cab Long Bed
ESOF 4x4
Mods Done Prior to Purchase:
17" offset wheels
(I liked these so i have kept them)
The week after i bought the truck
Mods Done Immediately After Purchase:
H&S Mini Maxx Race Tuner
-I absolutely love this tuner, very easy to install and update really woke the truck up.
-I initially ran it for one day before deleting the DPF and after i saw how high the egt's got during regen the dpf came off that night.
Flo Pro 4" Turbo back race pipe
-Removal of the stock exhaust was a pain, but the Flo Pro system installed like a dream
Afe dry intake
-slightly indifferent about this intake, if i was going to do it again i would probably go with an S&B system
I Ran the truck like this for about three months back and forth to work about 100 miles/ day and was seeing around 17-18 mpg
The rest of my mods have been fairly unscheduled, whenever i could afford things i would work at it little by little.
Sinister Diesel egr delete with intake elbow
-installation was a little tricky to do myself, because i couldnt reach everything (i have short arms haha) one of my buddies ended up helping me get the horizontal egr cooler removed.
-noticed a minor change in the exhaust/turbo note (a good change)
EGR delete and intake elbow installed
Coolant Filter
-i built this myself using a baldwin filter base and a filter without any additives
-i would highly recommend this, after the first filter change i got all kinds of sediment out of the cooling system.
-I also ditched the ford coolant in favor of Fleetguard
Coolant FIlter
Mishimoto Radiator
-It was only a matter of time... the stock rad started leaking one day on my way to work
-Installation wasn't too bad, i needed someone to help me lift it in and out of the truck, but other wise i did it myself.
Radiator install
Southbend Dual Disc street clutch
-i went with the heaviest clutch Southbend sold that i could still trailer with
-Havent been able to make it slip yet, big improvement over being able to break the stock one free in overdrive on the highway at anything more than 1/2 throttle
Southbend clutch Install
Sinister Diesel cold side CAC tube
-I havent really noticed any difference in EGTs or MPGs with this
-Not fun to install
ARP head studs
-I had this done more out of a safety standpoint rather than needing to do it
BD Diesel manifolds and up pipes
-Honestly it seems to have made the truck slightly more sluggish, but i may just need to change my fuel filters and air filter (too early to tell, they have only been on for a week)
Mishimoto Radiator (again)
-I have been extremely pleased with Mishimoto, i noticed that after about a year the rad that i had installed was leaking, one call to Mishimoto later and they were shipping a new (revised) unit to my doorstep.
All in all the truck is a blast to drive, and will pull just about anything. Let me know what you guys think, is there something else you think i should do?
As far as mileage goes, i don't do much highway driving anymore, but around town in getting about 16 that's not keeping my foot out of it. If i reset the lie-o-meter when I'm cruising on the highway it'll push up around 22.
