The vast majority of folks are happy to use an ODBII gauge.. the Scangauge2 or any of the APPs available now for smartphones. Monitoring your oil temps from another sensor gives you a tough time correlating your observed temp to what most on FTE talk about for EOT - since we all have the same Ford sensor and location - thus comparing our temps to each other is apples to apples..

Also, the price you pay for ScanGuage II is far less expensive as to be installing individual gauges and pods for anything you want to monitor on the truck.

There really is NOT a GOOD (read easy) place to install an stand alone gauge for oil temp. I attempted it and ended up tapping the oil filter housing but the readings were erratic depending on time of year. Would never get up to temp in the winter!
