Red face Post your rigged up fixes..

Just browsing the other thread about the leaf springs. Thought we could benefit from some cringe worthy stories and pictures of what the guy you bought your truck from did to your baby before she was in good hands. Or, if you're brave enough to admit it, what you did!

Now I'm still going through mine and while I've found a couple of things I disapprove of, haven't discovered anything I'd like to scold anyone for. I'm all for hearing about your treasure finds though.

I ready should have taken pictures. I laughed out loud many times.

How about all the electrical connections twisted together and taped up with blue painters tape?

Steel patch panels in the floor pans RTV'd in place?

Fortunately, someone before me wasn't much of a mechanic so they only screwed up little things. One of the jet tubes(?) in the carb was pinched shut on the bottom. No idea how/why that happened. Also had the wrong valve in the spark control valve location.

They also tried to rebuild the fuel pump. I took it apart to check it out and found out what was rattling. One of the valves inside was not pressed in.

I've found multiple locations where he had double stacked lock washers on one another, and on the wrong side.

Roadside fix! Brake light switch on master cylinder stopped working, so I taped a horn switch to my pedal and wired it to the brake lights.. hey it worked until I got home. that's when I installed an under pedal switch and never had an issue again.

How about rewiring the entire truck with all the same color wire.

my f1 had a 12/2 wire hooked to a 15amp household light switch which was screwed into a piece of plywood on the dash. I have no idea what was wired to it because the ends were cut off. It had to have been a farm truck, it had helper springs and all kinds of brackets on the bumpers and running boards. funny thing is my farmer neighbor took the wire and is using it on his tractor.

My window crank and inside door handles are welded to the splined shafts.

I didn't do that...

The engine in mine was bolted in with no motor mounts, the trans had a piece of flat bar with one bolt in the trans just sitting on the frame rails. No bolts and no welds to the frame rail. He had cut the stock trans crossmember with a hacksaw that must have had a really crooked blade. It also had about a gallon of bondo on the two front fenders. The wiper motor was gone and he had a lightweight steel rod hanging down below the dash that I guess the passenger needed to move back and forth to make the wiper wipe about 3 or 4 inches. The back brakes lines were crimped shut and the wiring looked like it was done by the same guy who did the wipers.

When I bought my 53 it had a Volare IFS under it. The po had torched off the original spring hangers, rolled the IFS under ( with the 318 and 727 trans still attached) and blew 4 holes in the frame rails to bolt it in. Funny thing was they never did reattach the upper A arms and they had driven this truck. The steering column used 3/8 water pipe for drops, you could swing it side to side several inches.
