Hi, my 88 7.5 has no power some days and runs great the next. I think the catalytic converter is broken apart. My question how do the small steel tubes on top come off. Any aftermarket items to get rid of it. Any help would be helpful. Thanks
If you're talking about the air tubes, then cut the lines and plug them, IF you don't have emissions testing for that truck.
thanks, pluging lines to pump be ok or what do you suggest to do with that. We dont have emossions here but was going to gut converter and put back on. Thanks
Remove all of the AIR injection pipes and tubing. Keep the TAB/TAD solenoid (s) connected electrically. Do not gut that converter then reinstall it. It acts as an expansion chamber and could have negative effects on flow. Install a modern hi-flow converter or pollute the air we breathe and install a spacer pipe in place of the removed factory converter.

Thanks for info, will get a hi flow converter. The truck some days wouldnt get over 30miles per hr, then the next runs like it should, I kept hearing noises like stuff was bouncing inside the cat. Am in process of taking off right now. Will let ya knoq if that was the trouble. Thanks mike k
Got the catalytic converter off and all the inside was broken up. They sure want a arm and leg for new one. Not sure which way to go. Might put duals on it. Thanks for info

My converter was broken up on back half ,I just shook the loose pieces out and put it back on, one test drive and ran great with the power a big block should have. No problem with codes.
