Tire choices

I'm at the point where I need to order tires so i can set my ride height where i want it. I have a 1948 f1 with mustang 2 front with 2 inch drop spindles and chassis engineering spring kit and 2.5 inch lowering blocks in the rear. Im thinking 215/70/15 in front and 255 /60/15 in the rear, Is that close with those sizes. Also what make tires are you running Im looking for something decent but thats not going to break the bank. Maybe Mickey Thompson ST with the white letters in. Pics are helpful .

I would set the truck on stands at the ride height you want, with the stands under the suspension so it is loaded. Measure from the ground to the axle center lines, double it to get your preferred tire diameter, then use a tire size calculator to figure out what size tire to buy.

Here is a calculator to compare tires, the two you listed makes the rears .20" taller than the fronts.

I'm at the same point with my '48, heidts m2 with 2" drop spindles and a generic 4 link in the rear it has a slight rake downward to the front.

The rear fitment isn't much of an issue as much as the front, I was running 235/70r15 on 15x8 w/ 4" backspace all around and 2" spacers on the rear with the 3" lowered leaf suspension, but now with the IFS, the front rubs terribly, it'll go straight and that's about it.

I'm looking at 215/65r15 on 15x7 w/ 4.25" backspace for the fronts and 255/60r15 on 15x10 w/ 4" backspace. They're about 1" difference in height to eachother which I don't mind.

For tires I'm looking at the Cooper Cobra Radials which are offered in a wide array of widths for 15" wheels and at under $500 for the set I think it's pretty reasonable.

They're similar to the BFGoodrich Radial T/A but for quite a bit less money.

These are 235/60/15's on 6.5, (I believe) Ford rims with a, (rough measure),2.5 inch or 65mm positive offset.

On the F-1's I believe that you can't run as large a front tire as you can on an F100 based on front wheel opening shape and size, particularly with a lowered stance. The F-1 opening is close to semi circular while the F100 is trapezoidal. The shape makes a big difference on tire clearance when turning. I went thru that exercise with the Jag IFS that I documented in another thread.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm using 6 inch rims on the front and 8 inch rims on the rear will that change the heights that show on the tire size calculator? I'll post pics tomorrow if I remember how .

It will not change the height, but the tire width has to be matched to the rim width. Those rim widths should work fine. You may want to grab a couple junk tires to put on and check clearances before buying new ones.

This is how it sits on 225/70/15 in the rear and i think 205/65/15 on the front. I think I would like the front to come up just an inch or so. The steelies i have will push the fronts toward the fender more .

I am using the Mickey Thompson ST's on the 48. I first used them as street tires for my Cobra and was very pleased with their performance and would buy them again in a heart beat. I bought the tire and wheel package from Summit. They were delivered to the house mounted , balanced, ready to put on. No sales tax, no shipping and nobody could beat their pricing.

The rears are P275/60/15 on a 15x8 wheel
The fronts are P245/60/15 on a 15x7 wheel
Here is a link to the spes for the Crager SS wheels
