I had issues the other day when i came out of work and my truck did not start. I finally pinpointed it was the starter after standing and crawling under the truck in the rain. I get the local shop to install the starter and now my truck sputters like it is misfiring. i can only assume the little bit i had the hood open in the rain wasn't good and rain got in somewhere which is causing it to do that. The check engine light came on and i went to Advanced Auto to get the code read and it turns out there is 4 of them.
- u0100..lost communication with ecm/pcm
-b1676..battery pack voltage out of range
- p0420...catalyst system efficientcy below threshold bank 1
- p1260...theft detected engine disabled
Anyone has any idea what where to look? when driving under a load the check engine light flashes and sputters the worst. i can only assume some 1 thing is triggering all these codes all of a sudden. it was fine before the starter went out. only thing i can think of was having the hood open in the rain. I have an appointment to get it looked at but was hoping to fix the problem myself and save myself the money.
An ignition system misfire could have killed your catalytic convertor. The P1260 code could have been caused by disconnecting the battery repeatedly. The lost communication with ecm/pcm code may be a result of that also. The battery pack voltage out of range code could simply be the result of a blown fuse or a faulty alternator. I don't know if electrical components getting wet could trigger that one, but it sounds reasonable. Have Advance clear the codes and check the catalytic convertor.
Could the battery pack voltage code possibly be from before the starter failed maybe? I sort of am leaning towards an ignition coil myself. But i'll see if they will clear them out for me and start over.
