Cigarette Lighter Replacement
Hey folks,
I have an 03 Excursion and want to replace one of the cigarette lighters with a USB port. Question is, is it as easy as I am thinking? Do I just just cut the wires to the lighter and hard wire it to the USB port? They sell some nice ones that mount flush to the dash so I am pretty sure it will fit. Has anyone ever done this to their rig before? Thanks for your help, I am new to the Ford world and absolutely love this site. You guys (and gals out there) rock!

I have a couple but they don't provide the full power I need. I found a couple on Amazon that replace the whole thing and are able to charge ipad and phones as if it were a rapid charger like the one provided by the newer cell phones.

I was able to replace the cigarette lighter with a flush mounted USB port. It took about 10 minutes total and was super easy. The one I bought is below, there were cheaper ones but I like assurance so I went with the Amazon Prime item.
1. Remove the panel
2. Disconnect any wires
3. Remove the cigarette lighter receptacle
4. Slide the USB receptacle in and screw on the locking nut
5. Cut the wires to the cigarette lighter
6. Slide the wires into the wire nuts provided, and crimp the ends.
7. Connect the wire nuts to the USB. Green wire is positive, black wire is negative.
8. Screw on the panel and you are complete.

thanks, it's pretty sweet I like it. Before I had to plug in one of those car chargers for the cigarette lighter and it wouldn't charge it much, with this one I was able to get a pretty descent charge after 10 minutes. I am buying a second one for my wife's car. I highly reccomend it to everyone I see because so many things these days are powered by USB. Hopw this helps!
