M5OD- plastic plug replacement?

I found out where these plugs are from a previous post. My question is are these plugs "pipe threaded" where I can replace them with a drain/fill plug to prevent these from becoming a problem in the future. I really don't want to replace with plastic since these are supposed to be a potential problem. Reagrds.

The plugs are not threaded. They are made of rubber and are pressed in the smooth bores. When they get old they tend to shrink and get hard which allows fluid to leak pass them. Pressing in some new ones with sealer is about a ten year fix.

Looks like another trip to the Ford dealer since I'm assuming this would be a dealer item. Thanks for the reply.

M5OD- plastic plug replacement?

Hey Redneckerson!
I replaced the plugs on mine this weekend. They were $8.00 each at the Ford house. They were a little hard to to install.
I hope this fixes the leak.

Did you have to pop the top off or remove the tranny?

When I did mine many years ago, I did it from inside the truck. I pulled out the seat so I could remove the carpet and access the trans from the top. I removed the service cover from the floorboard and then took off the trans top cover and replaced the plugs. I glued them in using Permatex Ultra-Blue sealant.

Talking Plugs

Use a lot of seler on the plugs all of them take them out goop them up like mad and put them back in than use your finger and do it to the outsid around where the reat agaist the top of tranny and yes you have to pull the top off(MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN N) pull seats and pull back car pad and takee the bolts off (use a heat gun to relase the sealer and get some window sealer to but back on with)not a hard job just take a little time
