Going to Smash Sync with a Hammer.........

I ripped a bunch of store bought CD's onto my computer using the WMP format. Set as rip automatically onto computer as MP3.

Downloaded the music files to a new micro SD card. Plays on my computer just fine.

Go to truck, insert Micro SD into a USB adapter.

Sync says "can not play protected media". *I freakin own the media stupid Sync). Then it says, no files found.

Download the music files from computer to thumb drive. Go to truck, get same result.

How can it not let me play music I OWN by way of factory CD's that have been converted to MP3 format?

Hi jh225,

The protected content message is just a disclaimer. The reason the SYNC system cannot detect the files is because it doesn't support adapters. The files have to be loaded directly on the USB device.

Once you have them loaded follow these step to listen to the media: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-...-by-voice.html

Let me know how it goes.

Whitney

you can get a program such as Switch Sound File Converter or Sound Taxi to remove the protection info it you own the cd's.

Ehhhhh, wrong answer.

I actually got it to work by plugging the USB adapter w/Micro card into my computer, going into WMP and ripping the CD's to MP3 format with storage in my music library. Once that is done, you can drag the album (or songs) into the Windows Sync area (right side of screen) and hit the "sync now" and have it load into the USB/card set up.

Once they are loaded, stick the set up into the USB port of the Ford system, it will take a minute to sort and organize, and then it will allow play by artist, song, album, etc including the cover art.

Now that I know how to do it, it actually works like a charm and I have ripped about 50 CD's already with hundreds more to go.

Thanks for the help folks.

Has Sync changed since 2011? I'm getting a 2016 and hope it works better. The Dodge guys claim theirs is much better. And call Sync a joke.
I use a Ipod..works but PIA sometimes. Hard to find podcasts and specific things like audible books.
I read it cost Ford $24 for the chip...I would of paid more for a better Sync.

USB worked perfectly the first time in my 2015. To the OP, it would be of benefit if you posted the yeart of your truck.

No problem here ripping, then copy to flash drive, cd or even dvd. After the last Sync update it even works better. I have the older version in my 2011, but the Sync update made several changes that enhanced the experience. Reads txt messages, allows me to reply, voice commands are crisper.

I have 1 TB flash drive that I keep in my truck. Its like 10% full. Once a week or so I'll throw a few more songs on it. Works great. The voice command thingamabobber works with it. I can fast forward. Steering wheel controls work with it. I suggest using one of those.

I've heard oft those, but never seen one. Last time I checked, they were over $750 and sync didn't support them. How did you get it to work?

Hm. I just plugged it in and went. Perhaps I am wrong. I thought for sure it was 1TB.

You're right. 512gb. My bad. I bought it when I built my PC.

If you didn't pay over $500 for it, it's likely a 1 GB (gigabyte) flash drive. No biggie, I'm just a nerd and seeing a 1 TB (terabyte) would be really cool.

Yea, you're right. 512gb. I bought it late last year when I built my PC. I want to say $400 or so for it. There so much room for music, I never really even noticed. I've got a stack of 3TB HDDs and for some reason I got stuck on this flashdrive being 1TB.
