Wink Headlights??

Hi Guys!! I am doing the '07 "facelift" on my Late '99

I got NEW OEM Ford headlights

I found/noticed that they have small about 2" long plastic "L" shaped pieces on the outside edges.....

Thought first they were something for packaging or the manufacturing process....

They are held on with 3m tape......

I actually installed my lights before I noticed them....

I removed the lights and removed the tabs because to me they look ugly....

Anyone know what these "tabs" are for?

Thanks Guys!!

I am not 100% what you are referring to. Is it rubber on the the outside of the light? If it is I am not sure what they are for either. I always figured it was for getting the right spacing between the light and fender. I always take them off after I install them.

They are more plastic than rubber (harder) "L" shaped and were attached on both mine right out of the box. Halfway between the top and bottom on the outside edges of the light, held on with 3m tape......

I thought it was some kind of spacing type thing, but before I removed them I had installed the lights and they fit fine, I took the lights back out and removed them and the lights went back in exactly the same.....

Aftermarket ones come with them too. My 05 and father's 06 have them and as far as I know are original.
Here's a picture for reference (circled in blue). I believe they are there to establish a gap so the hard plastic of the housing doesn't rub on the fender paint.

Gotcha, Thanks! May be the '05-'07 fenders are different, but in installing them on my '99 there is actually a nice gap there between the light and the fender......

So, since I've installed my lights with the tabs removed I'm going to leave them off for now.
