Has anyone replaced the stock bench seat with a later model car/ truck seat? I'm not sure I will be satisfied with the old one, even though it's been recovered with nice looking cloth. Are there some good candidates that will fit nicely and sit at the right height? I had a unibody 20 some years ago that the PO had put in something out of a car. I don't know what it was from, but it sat too low to be comfortable. I don't know if I'll have any luck finding a decent one that doesn't need redone, but it might be worth a shot.
Up to 96 ford truck is a bolt on to your 62 brackets. Garbz
Oh wow! I would have thought that the cabs on the newer trucks would be slightly wider than the sixties. That should give me lots of choices. Thanks Garb.
Depends on what you want to do. I bought Bucket seat brackets from Bill Wilson i believe...I could be wrong, id have to double check and took 60s mustang tracks and put them on 2001 mustang seats. A lot more comfortable for me....You can also do this with 05 mustang seats. 01 UP Mustang seats basically require a spacer and you to drill a couple holes to mount those tracks
Don't use the 2000 & newer Ford split bench seat. The backs are too thick and push you too far forward towards the steering wheel.
Garbz is right with up to 96 model seats. The back on those seats are about 1/2 the thickness of the later model seats.
Not to try and Hijack a thread but would this be the same on a 66 F100? I have been back and forth on whether I want to use the stock seat or not as well.
Not familiar with pre 65; however, after 66 the seats are wider up to 96, therefore one can swap entire seat or mix and match backs with bottoms but will need to swap tracks with the 65/66. I swapped out 65 seats with 87 40/20/40 Lariat and oh what a relief on the backside. The only issue to gain access to the tank area I had to eliminate 1 arm rest. In addition; took a 4" grinder and removed small amount of material from the seat retainer latch so it would not hit the tank. Finally, once the upholstery was removed decided to eliminate the cheap headrest which now sets just below the rear window.
For my 66 I got a 89 seat out of a standard cab and took it to the upholstery shop, had it recovered in vinyl along with my sun-visors. The leftover material I used to cover my door panels. I used the 66 tracks and it took about an hour.
Using the original seat depends on whether your're a purist or not. I'm not, I prefer comfort.

That's the thing I don't want to happen, these slicks don't have much room there anyways.

Is the head rest on some seats an issue? I know seat that were in my previous unibody had head rests that didn't come up too high, but as I already said, whoever installed them had them sitting too low.
Good to hear from you all about all the ones you may have tried and problems encountered. I'm hoping to find a good one that does not need recovered, but I'm probably kidding myself
Seen many headrest on the 61-66 Ford trucks and IMO it is a matter of preference.
In shopping for seats for the 65, basically went to salvage yard then mixed and match bottoms with bench until I came up with a combination I liked; unfortunately, unable to find a set in good condition. Found an FTE thread where member posted a website for auto carpet and upholstery material so I went online and ordered free samples. I then went to the upholstery shop and found they used the same company so they ordered the material and gave me their discount which saved me some $'s for the full installation, very pleased with results!!.
I put '01 Buick Regal seats in mine. The main issue I had is these used slots for the front and bolts only on the rear. If I were to do it again I would, but would have welded regular tabs on the front. They are leather though and feel nice.
