First, I am a novice to all of this, so thanks for your patience. I have been reading through many threads on this subject and found this one, A bit of info for those looking to build 300+hp 5.0L/302s - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans, which has helped out a lot. My goals for these mods would be just to make the truck more fun to drive (fast acceleration, overall more power), but still a DD. It is a 1992 F150 Supercab, 4X2, 302, 182K mi, MSD Distributor, coil, and wires, long tube header dual exhaust with magnaflows.
Here are the mods. What should I expect in gains, regarding horsepower and torque?
-Crane Cams: 364211
-GT40 Heads
Also, I would rather not have to upgrade to the MAF system at this time. What other mods would be possible without changing to MAF? Thanks!
Don't bother with a 302. You really should go with a 351 if you want the high power and decent mpg for a dd. If you really just want to say screw it, go with the 460. The 302 is a great muscle car engine, but really won't perform like you may want it to. Just my two cents.
I appreciate all of the responses! Out of curiousity, if I went with A 351, I would:
- find one, have it rebuilt with a few upgrades. What is a ball park for having one rebuilt with a new cam, heads, and what ever else to get around the 300 hp mark?
- would it come with MAF and computer, or would I need that before I put it in?
- if I stuck around the 300 hp area, would an E4od handle it?
- headers.
- what am missing that would have to me modified to drop in a mildly built 351.
- would 5-6k be a enough to fund this?
Or would it be better to buy a 351 from ATK (or another company) that is already modified, like this, http://m.summitracing.com/parts/hpe-hp09?seid=srese1&gclid=CI_Lms3l8MUCFUU8gQodpE4Anw
