So I have been having the injector stiction problem when cold. I spoke to a diesel mechanic, he said try seafoam in it to clear up the problem. So I bought a bottle put half in the tank and half in the oil. So after I started and let idle for 5 min it acted like it ran out of fuel. So let it set for a minute and hit the key fires right up. Idle 2 min and dies again. Pulled fuel filters and they look to be clogged up. Changed them started up idled for 10 min sounded fine until you hit the accelerator pedal a few times is dies again. Ok so now this just sucks back to check filters and they are clogged again. So now I am waiting to try and borrow a pump to get the 15 gal of fuel out of the tank get new filters again put new fuel in it and pray that cures it.
Is there any way to use the pump on the truck to drain the tank?
Disonnect the fuel line near the upper filter, that should get you about 15-20 seconds of run time. You could break it anywhere after the pump to make catching the sludge easier. Just key it a bunch of times and keep the batteries charged. Remove the FICM relay as well.
Archoil 9100 next time and synthetic oil.
You could probably disconnect the fuel line to engine on the HFCM inside the driver's side frame rail directly under the driver's door. Cycle the key on to KOEO, the pump will run for about 20 seconds before it kicks off. No idea of the flow rate or how long it would take.
After talking to others the seafoam is basically cleaning all old crap out of the tank. I am going to disconnect the fuel line from the HFCM attach a 3/8"line cycle the key to pump out all the seafoam'd fuel. I wont pull the filter out of the HFCM so it protects the actual pump from whatever crap comes out.
I like it. You have a stiction problem only on cold start and now Seafoam is cleaning all the "junk" out of your tank?
It didn't clean your injectors while it was busy doing that by chance, did it?
I think the junk in your tank is Seafoam... I'll just go off the anecdotal evidence you provided of a couple sets of clogged filters after putting it in...
It probably works in the cooling system to clean out clogged up oil coolers just as well...
I too used SeaFoam to fix an injector issue..... worked well for me! 1/2 into the the top of the fuel filter and 1 1/2 cans into the oil. Drove for 100 miles and changed oil. Done!
I successfully used seafoam in my lawn mower a couple weeks ago - it cleaned up the rough running/surging issue fairly quickly, it didn't help my standby generator though (new carb gasket kit on order for that)..
I also use the StarTron Enzyme Fuel Treatment now in my small engine fuel canisters.
