Dual Steering Stabilizer question

When I installed my ProComp dual steering stabilizer kit, the instructions stated that I remove the little spring shaped metal clips (or whatever they are) at the ends of each tie rod. That is where the outer SS shock brackets mounted. I removed them as instructed, but now im kind of wondering what their purposes was. Does anyone have a clue? are they important? I cant seem to get a clear answer.

Thanks, and yeah, I saw that thread (actually commented on it also asking the same question). I was told in another forum that they prevent the tie rods from coming loose if the clamps fail.... I know that there is a little over engineering involved in building trucks, but it seams like a stretch that Ford would install a flimsy little clip to support the weight of the truck in the unlikely event the tie rod end clamps fail.
