My lie-o-meter is pretty well spot on. I still run the hand calculations to verify though.

Yup, driving. Maybe 10 minutes of idling total on that whole tank. I had one tank where I didn't even get 5 but that was with a good bit of idling while I was working on it.

But back to the topic of this thread, is there anything I can do to improve my city mileage (besides not racing to every red light)? My Sequoia gets about 8-9 but that is a smaller engine, 4.7 v8, not to mention the ex is nearly a ton heavier.
About 8k for the week...

Does the mileage just plummet in NY for all vehicles? My mom has an 08 Sequoia with the 5.7 and it gets 13-15 it seems.

It depends on how long it takes you to get out of the pothole

Lol.....I'm so sick of the potholes...I can't wait to move out of the city.

My Sequoia is an '03, I'm lucky if I get 15 in the highway, I usually get about 13.5 doing 80-85. I'm hoping I can get that much out of the Ex.

My 4" lifted, with 35.28" tires tuned EX will still pull down 14 MPG on a pure highway run (at less than Russ speeds ), When it still had stock sized rubber and 3.73 gears I saw 15.75 MPG on a combined tank running around in coastal Maine. All of my MPG readings are hand calculated (the only way to be accurate) as my XLT EX doesn't have a Lie-O-Meter.
My '94 Metro is closing in on a 60 MPG tank currently! Last tank was 57.6 MPG.

Tom, I slightly resent that comment. The trip i just took a trip north and eked out almost 13 MPG. I've noticed my 20" wheels/tires have killed my MPG a little. The same trip with stock 16s and nearly same weather conditions have netted 14 MPG. This last trip i never even hit triple digits! nice slow cruise

You know I meant no harm and it was said with a smile Russ (even though I did forget to add the smiley guy ). I'm envious of your wide open spaces and highways, around here in the Mid-Atlantic states everything is too congested to open a car up and stretch it's legs, and if you do we have more Police than you guys have wildlife so it'll cost ya!
Are the 20"s taller than stock, you could be under reporting your miles and thus under calculating the MPG.

Oh i know you were joking Tom!

The overall of the 275/55R20 is 31.6 which is almost identical to 265/75R16. So best i've noted with my GPS the Speedo is no different then stock (shows slightly faster then you are actually going) But with the additional weight and width it has killed a little bit of MPG.

Yes, I do love our wide open highways. You can really be in the middle of no where with only the wildlife around. Best part is even when your out there and don't see another car for 100 miles, you are still not that rural as only a tiny slice of our state is accessible by any type of road system.

I get 7-9 with mixed driving. On the highway, with 6 of us on board, the A/C cranking and moving at about 80, I get around 13. I have noticed that when I come from New Mexico back home (Tucson) I get better MPG. I think it is fuel related because they don't have oxygenated fuels there like we do here in the winter.

I too have a stock tire '03 Eddie Bauer V-10 with 3.73 rear and use it as a daily driver more than most would think is wise. I average about 10 in around town driving, but a tank used on the highway alone at about 75 will get me about 13+. This weekend I took a 400 mile round trip, almost all highway and set the cruise control at 75, reaching a max rating of 13.6. I was thrilled.

Our Ex Gets 10 mpg when the fella drives 14 when I do ...

We live in the flat flat flat part of Ohio. 2004 V10 no mods, he likes to go fast, I am a speed limit plus 5 sorta driver. Makes a difference. Apparently.

Out here in the wild wild western Pa, it seems there are no easy routes, all back road mountain like roads. Plus getting stuck behind horse buggy's all the time, it takes a while to get anywhere. Nice though, I like it, deer, skunks, woodchucks, Amish, all kinds of wildlife. Just not good MPG routes lol.
