Hi, I have a 1965 SWB F100 that I got a few months back from a guy who had owned it since 1987. The spot for the paint code on the warranty plate is blank. The truck was repainted in the late 1980's with what appears to be the original color which is a metallic red the dash was also painted red but was originally white. From what I can see in the places that weren't repainted, this was the factory color. Also the numbers mismatch but in a way that makes me question that it was done after the truck left the factory. The door tag reads F10DE688623 but the frame is stamped F10DE687623. What are the odds of that out in the big world? I haven't removed the cab yet so I don't know if the second stamping is even there.
Is there any way to find out what the color was called?
No COLOR code stamped on the Warranty Plate, there will be no way to find out what the original color was.
And, it was not a factory color! If it was, the COLOR code would have been stamped on the Warranty Plate.
See your other thread where I decoded the VIN and Warranty Plate codes for the reason why.
An assembly line worker either stamped the frame VIN or the VIN on the Warranty Plate (known as the Warranty Number) with the wrong 3rd digit of the serial number.
