i was trying to figure out what transmission i need. i am converting my 93 bronco from a 302 efi to a 351w carb. i know it has to be a c6, but does it have to be from a carberated motor, or can it be from an efi like a 88 ford, with a efi 351?
The AOD up until 91 I think can be used for your application. You will need to get an adapter bracket to mount to the carb in order to hook up your TV cable. This is the new version of a kick-down linkage for lack of better terms. You can't use any AOD newer as they are all computer controlled. You will also need to get an adapter kit to hook up most aftermarket shifters to it.
i am wondering if you have a solution to the speedo because i thought they were elec. not cable drivin like the old c6, that was about the only thing keeping me from doing the same thing, because a c6 should bolt up to the transfer case right?
The speedometers are all cable driven. The only electrical thing about it is the vehicel speed sensor which is on the end of the speedo cable where it bolts to the tranny.
92 and newer AOD's, actually called an AODE, use the computer to control functions such as shift points and such so you would have to have a computer from the EFI vehicle to make it work.
If you go with an older model you will be fine. They are a bit longer than C4 and C6's so you might have to fabricate tranny mount and shorten the drive shaft.
