tip: pulls hard to one side when braking.
a mechanic at the local garage told me,to pull the rear drum on the side that pulls.with a couple bars hold pressure against the brake shoes while someone steps on the brakes.
a wheel cylinder can fail in a manner where only one side pushes out and spreads just one side of the shoes.this causes this side to want to lock up way before the other side and twist the truck off the one side.
when i did this,sure enough.it was as he suggested.only the front of the cylinder was pushing outwards.replaced it for under $15 myself and no more unsafe,strong pull to the ditch!
iv got to thank him,when i go back next week to line the truck up.iv never run into this issue before nor personally heard of it.so anyway,i wanted to pass it forward.it's a great tip!
note;
this is after you inspected the front calipers,and insured all wheels spin free of course.
Thanks, these little fixes always reminds me that sometimes the answer isn't the obvious one.
(Like when I thought my alignment went crazy due to a right-hand pull. Turns out my tire broke a belt and it was just a $35 used tire to fix it!)
