Trouble pulling codes from 89' 302...

Hey all,

So I've been having some issues with my 89' 302 and the first thing I do to diagnose is to pull the codes it shows CEL. To make things easier I got a Ford OBD1 reader and for the life of me could not get it to work, or the engine to run the self diagnostic (can tell by the lack of clicks and such coming from the engine). I then had a mechanic hook up one of those giant code readers and he could not get a code either. I'm looking for some direction on how to move forward..should I splice in a new diagnostic connector/ECM issue/ or bad wire?

I want to know the code before I start bench testing sensors and testing vacuum leaks. I may end up going that rout anyhow but I'd like to eliminate the obvious first. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm just getting into the Windsor platform.

Thanks

Clean the pins on the data link with some good contact cleaner. If that does not do the trick then use a small nail file to clean them up.

Ok, not sure, but our 99 F450 uses CIG lighter to power the OBD port. Does the older trucks also? Does your cig lighter work(blow fuse)?

Does not apply to this vintage truck with OBD-I.
