I only saw it once and I think it was after getting the Drive To Clean message. 47,000 miles.

Not aware of a cleaning complete message unless it is associated with the Operator Commanded Regen that was an option on the XL/XLT trucks.

The 2011-2016 diesels only had a message stating the cleaning had started. Never a message saying it was done.

The 2017 diesels don't give any messages whatsoever regarding a cleaning starting or ending.

Your truck is behaving normally. There is no "set" completion point of a cleaning anyway.

I don't think I have ever seen a "cleaning completed" message. I have watched. If it really happens it must only be there for a second. Even the "cleaning" message to start with is only up maybe 3 seconds. The way I tell it has finished is it says so on Forescan. You can kinda' sorta' tell when the DPF gage gets down to 20-25%, but it will actually stop the regen and that gage will continue to drop for maybe ten minutes as the DPF is still baking hot.

I'm going to hazard a guess that what happened is you were cleaning when you drove to the dealer and interrupted it by stopping. If it has already burned down a ways, when you start it again it won't start another regen till its full again. In the mean time if you read the miles since last regen PID from the OBD port, it will give you the miles since the last one stopped - whether it completed or was interrupted. That figure is static as well, it gets updated only on a key cycle.

If you want to keep track of what's really happening on these trucks, get Forescan or one of the others. Then you know what's going on.

I just experienced 2 instances of jackhammering with my 2015 that has only 13k miles on it. This happened not too long after the System Cleaning notification came on. Called dealer and they said to bring it in so they can check for codes. Correct me if I am wrong but it appears there won't be any codes. Anyone have any advice for me? Truck still under warranty.

Have them update the ECM/PCM with the latest IDS software. There was an ECM/PCM update to help with the jackhammering problem.

Hello. For the record, my '16 Lariat w/ 19k has the jackhammer issue and i just had the dealership do the ECM flash before I go to the trouble of having them replace the valves. Will post an update to see if the flash fixes it. Will also use another dealer, as this bunch didnt even call me to let me know the truck was ready.....

I had the update on my 16 with 22k about 3 months ago. It has been positive, we experienced a minor jackhammer issue the week immediately after the flash but that has been the only one since. No more issues so far !

Unhappy

Well, the flash did NOT fix the issue. I have since taken the truck to another dealer and although they seem to want to fix the truck, they wont do it bc (1), my truck has a build date outside the TSB (truck built 04/20/2016 and TSB covers through 02/16), and (2) they cant duplicate the problem. So I called Ford Corporate and they concur. No warranty work to be performed unless the problem is replicated by a Tech. They have had the truck since 03/22 and no luck getting it to do it.

While driving the truck yesterday with a Tech present, the issue happened. Put a call in to the Regional Service Manager to see what she/Ford is planning to do. To be continued!
