Let me start out by saying. I used to post here quite often under another username and well I couldn't remember my password. Anyway, I have a 1950 Ford F-1 with all 1973 Ford F-250 3/4 ton running gear. It has a 360 with NP435 tranny. I drove it to work a few weeks ago and had to have it towed home because it wouldn't start. Just this past weekend I finally had a chance to work on it and didn't really get anywhere with it. I have ruled out fuel. It is getting fuel to the carb and the carb is only about a year old. I had given it a tune-up about 6 months ago and all the parts look fairly new. I checked to make sure it was getting spark and it seems to be getting spark to the distributor. And this is also a points ignition. I have never updated it yet. After this issue I am seriously thinking about it. The motor has about 120k miles on it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. If you need any other info let me know.Thanks.
Well if you are getting spark out of the coil to the distributor.....make sure the rotor button turns when the engine is cranking over with the starter.
..if it doesnt turn...
roll pin in the distributor drive gear may be sheared...have to pull the distributor
if it does turn....
check that the rotor button is shiney clean and that the cap contacts arent burnt and pitted
If that checks out ok....may be a timing chain problem...possibly chain jumped a tooth ot two.
Well that should give you a few ideas check them out and get back to us.
former username is 50yellowbeast. I don't have the same email address or I would have had requested my password sent to me. My current email is on this profile. Thanks for the tip. I had checked to make sure the rotor turned and it does. My uncle told me the same. That it may have jumped a tooth. Not looking forward to the teardown on that one.
