New guy with ignorant question!
This is my first post on this great site but I have been reading threads for about a month now. The search tool didn't quite give me the exact answer to my question so I'll go ahead and make a fool of myself. I'm looking to change an intake on a 400m. Currently it is a 2 barrel and we will be going to a 4 barrel. I have used edelbrocks performer intakes in the past and been very happy so that is what is going on this truck. My question is do I but the egr or non egr intake and is a 600 Cfm avs carb going to be a good candidate for this motor? The truck is a 1980 f250 by the way.
This will be my first ford intake swap so are there any little tricks? For example on my small
Block chrysler I always use rtv on the ends instead of gaskets. Just little stuff that will save a few wrenches from being thrown. Sorry to ask such a dumb question and thank you for the help!

Welcome to FTE! I use the non-EGR versions with good luck. And, I'm running the 1406 Edelbrock, which is a 600 CFM carb, but that's on an M. So a 650 might be a better choice for an otherwise stock 400. And, the AVS version (Thunder Series) is a 650, not a 600 like the Performer/AFB.
By the way, there was only one 400, so it isn't called a 400M, just "400". But there were three 351's, so they are known as the C, M, and W.
