Thats cool.. You shouldn't have to replace your motor mounts on the frame, they should have 289-302-351W stamped into the bottom. I'm not sure if the rubber mounts are the same or not.
You should hook everything to pass emissions if needed. You might have to get a new y-pipe for the 351W, as it is wider on top. You can get rid of the whole AIR system, but, again, emissions .
Make sure you get a 351W flexplate/flywheel for your tranny, 302s of that year are different.
I am not 100% familiar with 87+ years, but I believe you will have to change the computer to one from a 351W, and get a 351w from 88 to 92,93 (before they changed to MAF). 87 won't work, they were carb'd.
So - have the tranny and torque converter rebuilt, transfer case almost done. There is a crack in the exhaust manifold so I'm thinking maybe headers instead of replacing the manifolds. Doug Thorleys fit and have the quality I'm looking for but with lifetime guarantee they're over $900. Anyone know of a good quality header for a 351W that will last more than a few years without burning out that isn't that much?
From Hedman's site - HEDMAN'S HTC COATING IS GUARANTEED against external rust-through for a FULL 5 YEARS. Together with Hedman's Lifetime guarantee against defects in workmanship, you will have years of worry-free hedder ownership. Hedman Elite
My local garage suggested Heman as a possibility. Hooker has a set of super competition headers that are shorties that are supposed to bolt right up to the stock exhaust. I have read some really good reviews about dynamax but don't know anything about them.
The one thing that scares me is the number of stories about headers that had to be bent or parts that had to be moved because of improper fit so thats a big issue.
Also, is there a significant advantage to ceramic coated?
