Alright guys finally got my dent side crew.1977 f-350 crew cab long bed 2wd. Its in pretty good shape minus the roof and drip rails they are toast. I went to open the tailgate and when I lifted up on it it pulled out and swung to the passenger side. I have been around alot 73-79 trucks and have never seen a tailgate handle like it. Is it a bumpside gate? I would take a picture of it but the p.o. put a piece of diamond plate over it so I need to get that off. Any help would be grateful. Like I said my first dent so I will be asking alot of questions.
Thanks for the reply. The po had a piece of diamond plate screwed over the whole gate do all I could see at the time was the handle. I got it off and it's a bump Gate. Thanks again.
The gate that's in it now has big block letters and the bottom body line does not match up with the bed. it has a square price on each side of the gate by the tail light that looks almost to be separate pieces.

It could be from a 1980/91, but there are three different types.
I can't show you a pic, because the 1980/89 parts catalog only shows the tail gates in the down position.
1980/82 tail gate has large FORD block letters, the right and left tail gate latches/supports (scissors) are one piece assemblies.
1983/86 tail gate has large FORD block letters, the tail gate is supported by cables that are not made as part of the latches.
1987/91 tail gate has large FORD block letters, the tail gate is supported by cables that are not made as part of the latches.
This tail gate looks different than the 1983/86 version.
If you post a pic of the tail gate on your truck, I can probably ID it.
I'm in Hacienda Heights, if you lived closer (909: Riverside/San Berdoo), I'd whiz over and take a look-see.
Thanks NumberDummy ill post a picture tonight. Hacienda Heights? Thats pretty close I work in San Dimas. The gate thru me for a loop because of the handle. Ive been around alot of ford trucks old new and in between but yet to see a handle that opens sideways like this. I would love to find a 73-79 bed with the tool box in the side.

Have you ever visited Early Ford Store? It's on the 'main drag' in San Dimas, located in the original 1916 Ford dealership building.
Early Ford sells used, repro and NOS parts. It's also a virtual museum of everything Ford.
If the handle "swings" (opens sideways), the gate is from a 1964/66 or 1967/72 (both mentioned in post 4).
FTE member JEFFFAFA, who's a Ford parts guy at an AZ dealership and posts in the 1967/72 forum...says in his signature that "trucks aren't cool unless the tail gate handle swings."
There's an Opel wrecking yard in Rialto, out back on the north side, standing upright against a building and a fence, is a 1977/79 8' Styleside bed.
I don't know if the tailgate is present, or if it has the optional tool compartment.
Thank you for the heads up on the opel jy I'll have to swing by and see what it is. The early ford parts store is 5 minutes from sky office and I have been in there several tines. Just bought a generator spring for my dad's 41 1/2 ton my avatar pic. I didn't know there was an opel only jy out in rialto do you have an address or know what street is on?

I've been to the Opel wrecking yard, but don't recall exactly where it is. It's located south of the 210 in a blighted rural area.
I looked on google earth, it's not Opel's Unlimited in Riverside, but they probably know where this yard in Rialto is.
Several years ago, an FTE member pal of mine (Keith) from Sedro-Woolley WA bought a complete '66 Bronco powertrain off ebay for 100 bucks, it was located in Menifee.
Several months later, he flies to LAX, I pick him up, he comes to the house, gets on craigslist. Finds a 1991 F350 stake bed (former San Berdoo NAPA parts delivery truck) at this yard.
The owner of this yard had bought it at an auction, but he could never get it to run properly, so it sat for about 5 years until he decided to get rid of it.
So we went to the yard, Keith bought it, then spent several days fixing all the problems including replacing the computer, then drove it to Menifee...loaded the powertrain, then drove back to WA
That's an awesome story. I got the 77 fired up last night a new fuel pump and she came to life. Found out it has a pin hole in the rubber line going to the carb and shoots gas all over the manifold and valve cover so I have to get that fixed along with the rubber line that connects the metal tank line to the fuel pump then I can pull it out and take it around the block. I found a broken plastic nipple that looks like it operates the secondaries is broke so I have to figure out what carb I have and see if I can track down that part. It's a 4 barrel 4 carb it looks like the 4350 I've seen pictures of.
I have a question the truck has f350 ranger xlt badges on both sides of the cowl. But it has one camper special on the front fender I don't know if one was lost or if one was found and just stuck on the truck. can this info be found thru the vin?

There's no code within the VIN or stamped on the Warranty Plate that identifies a Camper Special (C/S).
Since you're asking about the tool compartment, I assume this is not an F350 C/S on the 140" wheelbase (known as the Super Camper Special: 1973/76).
These trucks have the spare tire located behind a panel in front of the right rear wheel (where the tool compartment would normally be located).
Camper Specials came with a pigtailed wire harness w/plug to be used for camper clearance lights. It plugged into the Camper Special only tail lamp harness that had an extra feed wire for it.
You can get a copy of your trucks original build sheet by passing along your VIN and some bucks to martiauto.com
No sir this Is a 77 f350 crew cab long bed 2wd. 167" wheel base It does not have the original bed on it unless the 77 came with three tanks. It has an in cab tano and bed with two gas filler doors. It does not have a tank I'm the front but does have a tank in the rear. A toggle switch on the dash that says main tank and auxiliary and says travel tanks above it.
1973/76 Stylesides have exposed fuel caps / 1977/79 Stylesides have fuel doors. All 1973/79 Stylesides (except High Boys) were available with mid-ship & aft axle fuel tanks.
The in-cab tank was cancelled at the end of the 1977 model run, but I've never seen one of these trucks with 3 tanks.
All 1973/79 Crews were assembled at the Oakville Ontario Canada truck assembly plant.
If the DSO code on your truck contains 6 digits, it's possible that the 3rd tank was a Domestic Special Order.
But if the switch says Travel Tanks, it's aftermarket and probably one of the tanks is too.
