Low budget customization

Hey guys ive been looking at my truck and come to the conclusion that it looks to much like any other 64 f100. It looks almost 100% stock and some guys like them that way but I just want to make it my own (sorry purists). What's some ideas of things I could do or change to make it just a little bit different?

Oh yea here's the catch, I'm a broke highschooler

I can posts pictures if anyone wants to see what it's like now

So you want to stand out - I get that. But are there really a large number of 1964 F100s in your high school parking lot so that yours doesn't stand out? There were NONE in my high school parking lot and I graduated from high school IN 1964. You could always try some custom pin striping or flames or something. Not a whole paint job but just enough to be noticed if there are too many look alike trucks in your town. Just kidding you. Nice truck. Has a nice old truck patina. Have fun with it.

I'm with you, When was the last time I saw a stock 1964 on the road? Hell, got to be at least 20+years. Seen two stock 65s and took pictures and a 61 or 62 on Saturday. This over the last 7 years. At any show all I see is customized versions which frankly are boring because they are all so common.

I love your truck!

I may be biased because I have a 66 short bed that's the exact same colour combo. In my high school/broke days I often found that the best way to personalize my cars or trucks was wheels and tires. You could try trim rings, losing the hubcaps (not literally), spider caps. There are lots of different options. You could also lower it and that would just cost you mostly time and effort.

I'll be honest...sounds like a recipe for disaster. You really need to think about it. A lot of the time when you have something and see it every day you begin to think it's not that special.

You have vehicle that some only dream of owning. I mean look at what I'm working on.

Sure you can do things to it but do things that are period. Do things that can be easily undone.

Wow…what a nice truck. I would not change much if anything. Maybe wheels and wider tires like Peter suggested, but make sure you keep the original. What size engine does it have?

Spend the cash to get it mechanically sound first, then bolt on customization would be next. Valve covers, air breather, rims, exhaust tips, etc. Sound system, but don't cut the dash or "speaker panels". Anything bolt on can be changed back if ever you want to make it look stock again. Have fun with it!

Only because I've done it a few times and because it is cheap, I think a nice satin black on that truck would look really good. It accommodates keeping the stock wheels, tires and caps and turns it into a more youthful-looking vehicle.

You can do it using $10 a quart Rustoleum #7777 and some elbow grease. Do some simple wet sanding the original paint to remove most of the pock-marks first, mask it, and spray it. I've never had a spray booth and never had issues. Spray it early in the morning before the bugs wake up and it'll flash off fast enough. Cover important things in the garage and go for it! Also, they sell the same paint in rattle cans for the odd touch-up. Almost invisible when you do.

As for the purist comment and concerns, I think we can all sit back and see the beauty of this old patina truck. It's easy to say leave it alone. But we're not all in high school anymore. It does look like an old farm truck. And it is an old farm truck with some obvious blemishes it is clear he wants to make go away. Even I [don't want to] afford a good paint job these days and I doubt he can afford one at his age. I can see where he's coming from wanting to change it - just as easily as those of us who might think he should leave it alone. Bottom line is you need to listen to your own voice on that choice. It is a great big canvas and no matter what you do to it, if it makes you feel better when you drive it - go for it. It will be more apt to stay maintained and driven if you feel good about driving it - and not parked in a field to rot.

A quick Photoshop tweak. :-)

I just re-did my Jeep with a $35 gallon of satin black emplement enamel, and I bought a $30 sticker kit off Ebay to replace the factory stickers(Wrangler, Jeep, 4.0L, etc). Didn't change another darned thing about it.
In the 2 weeks I've been driving it, I've had maybe 6 people(all total strangers)tell me how nice it looked.

It doesn't take a lot of cash to make it your own, just willingness and a bit of elbow grease.

You can sand and paint bumpers, grille, wheels, and various little things. You could add some pin striping or something. You could take out the Cluster and paint it a custom color. I actually did a speckled finish on my custom console just using textured silver paint and then backing away a shooting bed liner.

Im also a satin black fan but i use John Deere Blitz black which sells for $37.00 a gallon online. I mix it with thinner and hardener (8:2:1)from tractor supply and spray it with a cheap gun. Works and looks great. Granted i coated my car 5 times (a wet sand after 3 due to some i created). Im still trying to decide if i want to do that on my truck or satin red. Many options

I also see you have a TN plate. Where are you? Im in Nashville
