Did a body swap on a 1977 F100, 300 c.i. 6cyl, C4. Truck ran and drove fine prior to the swap. After working out some bugs, took the truck out for a spin, made it about fifteen miles and the truck started to drop speed. Pulled over, checked everything and the transmission was low on fluid. Added a quart and the truck would drive, but you had to rev the motor way up to get it to move. Towed it home. This morning found a broken tranny cooling line, replaced it and topped it off with fluid, truck has the same trouble. All three forward gears and reverse work, but it is kind of like trying to take off in 5th gear of a manual.
Any ideas where to start? Tips to trouble shoot? Thanks in advance.
You may have lost more than one quart of ATF, if you figure how much is in the trans cooler, torque converter and the trans pan it' self, you could have lost a lot more than one qt.. I would recheck the fluid level with engine running in park after going thru the gears to pump out any air. I'm no expert but that would be my starting point. After that you could use a psi gauge and check pressure levels, at the test fitting on the side of the trans but you would at least need a book to do it properly. Good luck

I appreciate the input. It's actually working properly after we serviced it and after crawling under the truck, I found out it's actually a C6. Lol
