If its a two piece, there is a TSB out to clean & use a PTFE loaded grease on the splines to prevent them from sticking & causing a wind up clunk when under power.

That would be real nice if that was the case. Thanks for the info
Okay it does have a 2 piece drive shaft. I think my problem is something else. It sounds like a hammer is beating on the rear somewhere under power. Goes away when clutch is engaged but starts again on corners or when clutch disengages. I'll pull the diff cover and see if it's gear related

also I'm positive that my slip yoke is at the rear end side not the tcase side. The pics I've seen that's backwards..
Bummer on the ring gears, but good to hear the used differential has you on the road again. Did you put new lube in the replacement???
New lube and new brakes. Now I got to figure out the front end. Steering wheel is 180 degrees to the right. Nothing looks out of shape but it looks to be inexpensive to replace the drag links and tie rods
OK, that's interesting info, as my differential is coming up on its 90K service & I was considering using 75W-90 synthetic. I was wondering what to expect it might look like in there, as this truck is used mostly for towing my Bass Tracker over & through the Blue Ridge Mtns 60+ miles round trip to the lake, so its seen a lot of 60 mile tugs over the past 15 years. It still has the factory fill, which I think is 80W-90, but would like to use the 75W for winter & wondered how it would perform & hold up with the traction lock differential & sound, if any, when in use??? Would be interesting to hear any inputs, good, or bad, you can muster as your use progresses.
Any evidence, or idea what might have caused the ring gear mischief????
