Replacing left Radius arm bushing.

Does anyone know the procedure for replacing the left side radius arm bushing? The bracket that the bushing rided in is welded and I am not familiar with the procedure for replacing it. The right side was not welded and was a relatively simple procedure of removing the bolts holding on the bracket. Does anyone know the procedure?

Thanks,

Bear

Replacing left Radius arm bushing.

I had a Ford Truck friend of mine show me how he did it once on a 1988 f-150 2wd. It sounds risky but it worked. Take loose the back bolt on the radius arm and chalk the front wheels while having a friend eyeball your progress... start er up and put it in reverse. It only takes a few inches (2-3) to get clear of the bracket. Replace the bushings. Put er in drive and drive it back into place & tighten it up. I had visions of springs flyin and shocks bending ect. but it took less than an hour (about 3 beers). As far as the bracket being welded... It may have been in an accident or sumthin??? I would still put a grade 8 hardened bolt or two in it if the holes in the frame and bracket were still there, just in case the weld breaks. If you want to get more info, check the suspension thread and look for your radius arm discussed. Hope that helped.

Replacing left Radius arm bushing.

There are two ways of replacing the drivers side radius arm bushing.
1st you can take the front end apart ( don't do it big pain in the a$$)
2nd option - get yourself an angle grinder and drill. Grind and drill the rivets off (use a torch if youve got one) replace the rivets with grade 8 hardware from home depot. After the rivets are off the procedure is the same as the pass. side.

Good Luck.

I need to replace my driver side also. Looks like its starting to melt. Does anyone know what size of bolts to buy. Won't be able to go anywhere once its tore apart. need to get everything first.

Read my post here. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, but I think this is a much easier & more practical method than cutting the rivets. My truck had rivets on both sides, & I was able to do both sides in about an hour without having to buy new bolts.
