tilt frond end

I am getting back to working my on 49 F1 pick up. The hood, grill & fenders are all bad so I am think of using a tilt frond end (from usbody.com). I have never done anything like this before so I need some advice. How hard is it to do this? Would you do it again? Can you send me pictures? Does anyone in South Florida have a 48 thru 50 F1 with a tilt frond end if so can I drive up and see it, take some pictures and ask some questions? I saw one in Berra Ky but could not find anyone around so I could look at it. I will be in Berra Ky 6-6 thru 6-8 if anyone knows who's truck that is.
Thanks

I had thought about replacing the all steel tilt front end on my 50 with a glass front end, but after looking at several trucks at the Supernationals last year and talking with the owners, I changed my mind. Evidently, it takes a lot of work to get everything to align properly with the cab, and of course you know you'll have to part the fenders somewhere so they clear when you tilt, or you'll have to make a tilt mechanism that slides forward before it tilts.
There is a "cool" factor with the tilt front end, and it's great for showing off your engine or for working on your truck.
Have you considered trying to come up with a good steel hood, and then just get bolt on glass fenders?

Tilt front end. All steel, and heavy!

good mornin Tom.

a full tilt front end is cool as can be... but A LOT of work

Here's an article I did on mine..... it's a '53 but the challenge is the same. It take a good bit of talent, sweat, skill, luck and profanity to get it accomplished.. but the results are rewarding... good luck on what you decide btw you might look at the date at the end of the article... that's when it started.

John, I've had your article bookmarked for a couple of years, and refer to it for ideas and inspiration. Nice job, and thanks for documenting your project!
