Got energetic and found both ends of the pass thru wires and Upfitter switch wires and put 12 inch extensions on all of them. Now I'm all set for some more mods. Back up camera for the 5th wheel hitch will be the first.
I'm impressed. By the time I get my big self under the dash and the hood fishing for those little bits of wire that Ford gave us with the upfitter switches. I'm pretty well burnt out after just one wire.
I would have paid an extra few bucks if Ford would have just given an extra 6" of wire each.
I wired in the no 4 upfitter switch to a solenoid to my aux tank. Spent most of my time trying to find the wires, adding on the wire I used. Not used to working in such uncomfortable quarters. I need better tools/techniques and connectors before I try wiring up another switch. Do you have any tips to pass on about your equipment or techniques?
I just used a quality compression tool and insulated butt splices and then sealed them with heat shrink tubing. I also checked all connections with an ohm meter before sealing.
I put in the high idle mod setup that I got form Brendon last week. The way I described it is putting me(6'0. 250lbs) face down in a shoe box and asking me to work on the lid!! I'm with jonrjen, I would've paid an extra $5 to have all of the wires a little longer. XL hands and tools just do not go well under these dashes!

Didn't say it was easy. My forearms look like I got in a fight with a meat grinder. I just got done with the camera install and for 45 bucks it's an awesome camera. The instructions suck if they want to call them that. Thanks again to jonrjen for the install tips. Saved a little guessing. I think the red pigtails that are not used are little antennaes if you want to buy the optional wireless transmitters.
I definetly need to invest in better equipment to do this type of work. Had fun with ohm meter finding the proper wires. The color coding on the wires doesn't work well with my imperfect vision. Glad my project worked out really great. Just the price we pay to get something done.
Frankly - Someone at Ford deserves to get their coffee served to them cold in the morning for the next five years for not having put those wires where normal human beings can get at them...
In case you can't tell - I haven't done mine yet.. And with my effed up back it won't get done soon....
